"One
of the most unusual pieces I've installed was a miniature replica of
one of the galleries in the Metropolitan Museum. I strung wire from the
picture rail at the top of our ten foot walls all the way down to the floor
and then hung tiny paintings from the wire about two inches off the floor. When
I opened the last box of artwork, I was overwhelmed by the smell of mothballs
and I discovered several taxidermic mice wrapped in tissue.
After fluffing them up a bit (some of them looking as
if they had been stepped on), I followed the artists instruction and placed
them on the floor in front of the paintings, waxing their little feet down
so they wouldn't scatter."
